How to restore Edge Workspaces for work profile after AD account migration

My AD work account was being migrated to a new Tenant because of a merger.
After the account migration I started having error with Reconnecting Workspaces.
Edge Profile (Old AD acct) - Error Edge Workspaces

I asked IT for assistance with helping to bring the Workspaces over to my new Edge Profile connected to my new AD account on the new tenant

I have lost a lot of data, because Edge Workspaces was the only place I had all these links saved.

IT had me try many things in Edge, resync data, sign out, sign in, clear all history, & from what I could tell the following option was the one that changed my error from above (limited functionality) to not even being able to access or view the Workspaces any more.

IT had me click this then Error every time since

Now I get the following error with no access to even use or manually recreate the Edge Workspaces
Edge Profile (Old AD acct) will not even open on work computer

Please Help!

    Hi Barrera, Michelle,

I'm truly sorry to hear about your Workspaces situation following the account migration.

Unfortunately, once an account is migrated to a new tenant and sync data is reset from Microsoft servers, the original Workspaces are no longer accessible. This is due to how Edge ties Workspaces to your cloud identity and sync state, and there is currently no supported method to transfer or restore them across tenants.

The “Reset sync data from Microsoft servers” option permanently deletes all synced data from Microsoft’s cloud, including Workspaces. This action is irreversible unless the data still exists locally on another device. Reference: Reset sync behavior

After some digging around, here are the only remaining possibilities worth checking:

    Access from Another Device

If you have another device where the old Edge profile was still signed in before the migration or sync reset:

    • Do not sign out.
    • Try opening Edge and checking if Workspaces are still accessible.
    • Manually copy or export the links.

Check OneDrive or Local App Data

Some Workspace metadata may be stored locally or in OneDrive:

    • %localappdata%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data
    • OneDrive > Apps > Microsoft Edge > Edge Workspaces

However, these are not guaranteed to contain usable data after a sync reset.

    Try Insider Builds

Install Edge Canary or Dev Channel, sign in with your old account (if possible), and check if Workspaces sync correctly.

    Submit Feedback to Microsoft

Use Alt + Shift + I in Edge to report the issue. Microsoft may be able to investigate backend logs if the case is severe.

This is a known limitation of Edge Workspaces, and Microsoft does not currently offer a migration or recovery tool for tenant changes or sync resets.

Hope this answers your question - If you have more questions, I'd be more than happy to help you out!
