My webcam isn't working. Hardware or software?

Good day,

My Surfacebook 2's front webcam is not working lately. When I open the camera app it sends my pc into a bluescreen force restart. When it does not, my front webcam just appears to be black. I tried multiple solutions such as the 20 second shut down, updating the Intel(R) AVStream Camera 2500 and even going into uefi bios to see if the camera was toggled off. My rear-facing camera works though.

I hope you can help me because I need it for online classes.

Regards,

Luke

    Hi Luke-Smith

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your inquiry.

We suggest the methods below to troubleshoot the camera issue:

    - Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit and check Windows Update.

    • Run the System File Checker.
    • Reset the Camera app. Go to search > search for apps & features > Locate and click the camera app > Choose advance option > reset.
    • Go to device manager > look for system devices > Can you please confirm if you have "Intel Control Logic"? If you do, right-click on it, click uninstall then check the box that says "Delete the driver software for the device" > Then restart the device. If you see 3 Intel Control Logic drivers, try to uninstall one first and if it doesn't work, delete the rest.

Keep us updated by replying on this thread.

    UPDATE

I ran the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit and the results came back fine, though the toolkit did not check my webcams.

I reset the camera app but when I launched it my laptop got a bluescreen.

I went into device manager and found three Intel Control Logic drivers and uninstalled them. I restarted the laptop and opened my webcam but the problem continued. I opened the device manager and there are still 3 Intel Control Logic drivers.

    I hope this update helps.

Thank you for your update, Luke-Smith. When you uninstall the driver, did you check the box that says "Delete the driver software for the device"?

    OHHHHH WAITTT

I tried it again and deleted the first one, ticked the check box and my webcam WORKS

I'll try to restart my laptop and see if it stays that way.
