Surface Duo 2 - Server Error when trying to make calls

My surface duo 2 (TMobile) will not make or receive calls when connected to 5G or LTE, but calls do work on 3G. However, I am able to connect to the internet and send / receive text messages on 5G and LTE.

When trying to make a call on 5G or LTE, I get an error message that says "Server error. Try again later."

I have performed a factory reset and installed a new TMobile SIM card, but neither has solved the issue

A previous poster mentioned that installing a SIM card from a different network provider (i.e., Verizon) and then going back to the TMobile SIM worked for them, but I do not know of anyone around me that has a different provider.

Is there anything I can do short of finding someone who has a different provider's SIM to solve this issue?

Thanks in advance.

    hello BrockB92,

Could you check and list out your APN setting on the device?

Have you been in contact with T-Mobile support and if so, what have they said so far on the issue?

    Thanks,

I can confirm the Verizon Sim trick works, so far this has happened to me twice since the 12L update 2 weeks ago, that is what Microsoft needs to look into.

Hey John I can answer this, since I bought the phone earlier this year I had this issue happen 3 times, once pre 12L where I tried everything t-mobile calls factory reset network reset, APN verifications... Scoured reddit nothing, until I stumble across the Verizon Sim card tick. Tried it and boom instant success. Now since 12L update its already happened twice and it's getting embarrassing asking my friend with Verizon if I can use his Sim card to make my phone work...

Hey, I am just chiming in to share I'm experiencing the same problem. I have a Duo 2 256GB unlocked unit with a physical Verizon SIM plus T-Mobile on the eSIM. I can do everything on the Verizon SIM fine.

I did upgrade to 12L, but was able to make calls for a few days without issue so I do not believe that the problem is related to that version.

I erased and setup the eSIM again with help from a T-Mobile rep but this did not help.

I wish someone could figure this out. Is this an Android, Microsoft or network problem. I have a surface duo 2, unlocked in canada, I have an international call plan, before April and the US 5G switch over , my Sony phone worked flawlessly. Had to get a 5g phoine to comply.

I still get text, data, and email on my bell plan, just no voice, in or out. I have done all the tricks, (have not tried Verison).

My take on this is that the phone only works on area's that have not discontinued their 3g networks. So..... is this an android problem or faulty phones from Microsoft????

My next step is to call microsoft as it's their product that does not work.

    Great computer/camera......not a phone
