Support for MS Apps (Word and Excel) on the Surface Duo

I just purchased a Surface Duo to replace my old Samsung tablet and cheap android phone so that I could use one device for work when I'm away from my desktop. Imagine my surprise when I realized that on this MICROSOFT device I am unable to install MICROSOFT apps for Word and Excel. This makes the device way less useful to me and I am regretting my purchase. I don't like the idea of having to bypass the Play Store to download the APK from some random website - not comfortable with this at all. And I have my reasons (as others have noted in an earlier thread) for wanting the actual apps and not the lite versions in the Office app. Seriously bummed. When will this be solved?

    The Surface Duo launch required investment in our apps to ensure they could fully utilize the benefits of the dual-screen form factor. As we explored how best to do this for the Office experiences, we decided to focus our investment for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint exclusively in the Office mobile app. The Office app was designed to include the full Word, Excel, and PowerPoint mobile experiences, additional capabilities including the various PDF and Lens features, and an integrated experience that means fewer apps to use and requires far less storage on the device.

    With all due respect you are a bunch of idiots. You have a potentially world beating device but you won't spend enough money getting the software for it usable. No excel, no word, and the launcher is **** because you can't customize anything. Release your API to the public so real android software developers can give your customer usable software for your Android device. Surface Duo is destined for the scrap heap because Microsoft is to cheap to spend enough money on software development. They just don't care.

    Dear Steven,

    I appreciate your answer. But I'm a person Tha work a lot on my phone. Unfortunately the office app do not give all the characteristics and elements that each individual app does.

    I to bought the Duo in huge part for the office experience. I'm choked that the official Microsoft apps aren present on a Microsoft product.

    There are plans in the future for allow us to get the complete office apps experience?

    So to know what to do with my new Duo.
