WIFI calling issue on AT&T

I have two Surface Duo 2 phones and they have the same issue. We live in an area where cell service is often limited, so we swapped from Verizon to AT&T to get WIFI calling. The connectivity is inconsistent, even within our house where I have two networks always available.

Both phones will not default over to WIFI calling unless they can see a wireless signal first, which is the whole point of having WIFI calling. I have been on the phone with AT&T for hours and they have reset everything from their end possible. I am convinced that the issue is a setting or software issue within the phone since both phones have the problem. At times they will not default to WIFI calling even though I can call up Edge and see the connectivity is there.

Has anyone conquered this issue, or seen it?

    Hello HawkeEye30571,

When you are in your settings for Wi-Fi calling in Settings->Network & Internet ->Mobile Network ->Calling -> Wi-Fi calling->Calling preferences, what is the current setting you have it set to?

The scenario you want, the option Call over Wi-Fi would be the best option here.

    Thanks,

I hope you are still monitoring this thread because there is a new issue on wifi calling that originated with the latest update I applied on 1/26/22

With the latest update I believe the calling options changed to 1. wifi then cell and 2. cell then wifi.

The failover between these no longer works. I have two Duo 2's and I have one set to option 1 and the other set to option 2 and neither works.

It seems to get hung up wanting a cell signal before initiating the wifi side of the equasion. This obviously defeats the purpose of the wifi calling.
