Microsoft Duo 2 - Cannot make phone calls in the USA but works in Canada and UK

I love the phone. I works perfectly fine in Canada and when I was traveling in the UK recently. I was in Florida earlier in the year and I was unable to make phone calls. Contacted my wireless tech support and they we unable to find a problem on their side. So to troubleshoot the issue, I used my wife's Surface Duo 2 phone and put my SIM card in the phone and it worked just fine. I could make and receive call. The data on both devices was fine, but only able to make calls on my wife's identical phone. With the Rogers Wireless technician on still on the call, we put the SIM back in my phone and they asked me to manually change the carrier from automatic to T-Mobile and that worked to be able to make calls on my phone over the next 2 days.

It was a short trip so I went back to Canada without a final resolution.

Fast forward to this week where I am in New Orleans and the same issue being unable to make phone calls. Tried the T-Mobile trick and it didn't work. Switched the SIM with my wife's Microsoft Duo 2 phone and it worked. I also brought my backup iPhone X and decided to switch the SIM into that phone and it worked fine. Calling and data no problem. So conclusion - there is a defect with my Microsoft Duo 2 phone.

Earlier in the year I had to replace my original Duo 2 phone because the "ON" button was overheating to the point where I was burned on my forefinger when I tried to turn it on. Ended up replacing the phone.

So Microsoft, I've been loyal for over 30 years. You all need to keep me loyal by resolving these design issues.

Since the new update About 24 hours ago I am not able to make verbal phone calls. I can compete video calls on my MS Duo 2 phone but not voice calls directly. Nor am I able to receive voice calls. This is a business phone as well and VERY concerning.

I replaced the Duo 2 phone 3 weeks ago. I haven't been back to the USA since the first incident not being able to place a call. I hope the new phone works fine. So for those with the same issue that I was having, I don't know if it's solved yet and likely won't be able to check until early 2023. Hope Microsoft has been able to isolate this unique issue and will implement a fix for us all.

Hi - I’m looking to purchase the surface duo 2 . I live in the Toronto area ad was wondering how reliable it is for phone calls as I’m on the phone majority of the day. Thanks in advance.

This is the best phone I have ever had. The issue with making calls in the US seems to have been identified and patched. I haven't travelled to the USA since I replaced the phone, so I cannot verify that the issues is resolved completely, at least not for me yet.

On your main question - This is the best, most complete communications device I have ever owned. The phone is outstanding. It's clear and easy to use. Multi-tasking is a breeze with the dual screen. The Duo 2 is my mobile office when I have to leave my home office for meetings. I have had iPhones, Pixel 2XL, Wiindows Phone, Blackberry, and HTC. This is the best companion device I've had thus far. I'm looking forward to where this goes next.

    Hope this was helpful.
