Surface Book 2 shut down and will not turn on

My surface book 2 suddenly stopped working - cold, mid-keystroke - and it will not power up. I’ve tried to soft and hard boot it using the power & vol + method and managed to manually detach the clip board, attempt to power up that system independently, and have had no luck.

The  surface dock that they laptop was connected to acts like it will not power the sytem now, although it will charge USB devices plugged into it. A normal power pack does appear to bring power to the laptop, it just does not allow for it to power up.

If I press the clipboard detach key, I get anywhere from 1-5 green flashes, usually in decreasing numbers if you press it repeatedly; however, it will not detach the clipboard. I recently down loaded and installed the current Windows 10 updates (within the last 24 hours) and noticed no issues the system simply went dark. Could this be a problem with the recent update, or is it something else?

    Hi,

Thank you for letting us know. Let's sort this out. Surface won't power on can be associated with several issues: it can be heat related, failing hardware, issues with Windows. Let's try to troubleshoot this issue while the PSU is attach on your Surface:

    1. Press and hold the power button until the screen turns off (about 10 seconds), then release the power button.
    2. Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You should see the Microsoft logo.

Additionally, undock and disconnect all extra peripherals and leave your Surface plugged in to the power supply that was included with the device, but remove everything else that’s connected to it, including the accessories, adapters, external monitor, and MicroSD card. Then, disconnect your Surface from the docking station if you’re using one. Press the power button once to turn on your Surface.

If you would like me to provide additional advice, simply respond to this thread. I will get notified and I’ll reply to you as soon as I can.

    Regards.

    Hello Kenneth,

Thanks for assisting. Given the conditions you laid out, number one does not apply and number two does not do anything to the system.

    Regards
