Overheating Surface Book 512GB i7

Has anyone out there been experiencing overheating problems with their i7 Surface Book?

I bought a new Surface Book 512GB i7 in August 2017 for about $2,700. Used for both personal and business it runs 95% of the time via a Surface Dock and external monitor with bluetooth ARC mouse and Surface keyboard in both locations.

I have noticed in the last month that the system is starting to warp which I presume is due to heat. This has resulted in the monitor showing pressure points on the sides ....

I can also see that the base cover plate for the CPU has started buckling from the heat ....

Given the price paid for this unit I am both shocked and dismayed at this discovery, especially given that the laptop has only been used in an office / study environment.

Among the family we have a MacBook Pro, Samsung and Dell laptops all of which are as old or older. This is the first time I'm seeing something like this on a laptop. And I'm concerned now at how much of a fire risk this might be ... apart from the units integrity.

Interested to find out if this is a problem other users have experienced?

At the time I purchased a Consumer Complete Warranty. How long does that protection last for?

Thank you.

Thank you.

    Hi PAL Smith,

Thank you for reaching out Microsoft Community. We're sorry to know that the keyboard's battery is now expanding.

Since this is a hardware related issue and your Surface device needs to be replaced, the best resolution I can recommend is to contact our **Microsoft Surface Support**for further assistance. Any hardware related issues just like this can no longer be troubleshooted and to get the device warranty verified, it's best to contact our technical support.

As far as I know, for expanding battery issue, a free replacement for the same unit will be honored if in case the device was purchased not beyond 3 years and since you mentioned in your post that it was purchased last August 2017, so this has not been beyond 3 years but you have to get the device warranty verified first to get a free replacement. Redirecting you to contact our technical support over the phone since we cannot any replacement here in MS Community.

If this answers your question, feel free to mark this post as an answer. Otherwise, don't hesitate to respond to this thread if there's anything else that needs to be addressed.

    Kind Regards,

    Crest_Z
