I'm using an external cd player on a Surface Book 2 (SB) running Windows 10. I open Media Player and nothing happens, just the whirling circle. I've been able to do this in the past. I don't have any idea what might have changed to cause this behavior. As I was keying in this question, I got a fly-out from the right side of the screen saying "Choose what you want to do...". I didn't have time to read the entire message. It went away almost immediately, but think it said something about AutoPlay.
TIA for your help,
SweetTasha.

About 5 minutes after I closed media player, the fly-out came back and offered to open the CD. But it still didn't do anything. I could hear the drive humming quietly. (I guess it didn't know the lyrics LOL.) After a while it stopped humming and I heard the sound that these drives make when they are winding down. I took the CD to my PC and it played fine there on one of the external drives attached there. Then I brought the drive that had been attached to the SB to the PC. It wouldn't play there.
I'll take the drive that is attached to the PC to the SB. I need to finish this later. Stay Tuned.
The three drives that are normally attached to the PC will play on both the PC and the SB.
The drive that is normally attached to the SB will not play on either the SB or thePC. So, the conclusion is that normally attached to the SB has reached the end of its useful life.
