Surface Book 2 (13.5, i5 7300U), Camera not working.

Hi,

I got my notebook yesterday. When I first started it, the camera worked fine. I updated everything, suddenly the cam does not work anymore. I can install its drivers, but 3 devices have a problem:

Microsoft Camera Front

Microsoft Camera Rear

Microsoft IR Camera Front

(Manufacturer: OV5693 Camera Sensor, OV8865 Camera Sensor, OV7251 Camera Sensor)

Their problems are all Code 10 and STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE. The device driver for Intel AVStream Camera 2500 is installed and shows no problem. Yet I get the following message when I open the camera app (newest version): 0xA00F4244<NoCamerasAreAttached>

Reinstalling Windows did not help.

In UEFI cam is activated.

Deleting drivers (for the camera components) and reinstalling etc. did not work.

Troubleshooting shows/finds these problems, but cannot solve them.

Windows is now Version 1803.

No Antivirus program except for Microsoft Defender.

Any help?

    Hi Takeln23,

Thank you for posting your question here on our website.

Upon checking our resources, here's the resolution I found for Error Code 10.

    Full Error Message

"This device cannot start. Try upgrading the device drivers for this device. (Code 10)"

    Recommended resolutions

In the device's Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver to start the Hardware Update Wizard. Follow the instructions to update the driver.

Note You may be prompted to provide the path of the driver.  If you are asked for the driver and you do not have it, you can try to download the latest driver from the hardware vendor’s website.

To update drivers for Windows 10, here are the steps:

It's likely you already have the most recent driver, but if you're having trouble with a device, you can try fixing it by updating or reinstalling the driver. Here's how:

    1. Select Start , in Search , type Device Manager, and select it from the list of results.
    2. Expand a category (like Monitors or Network Adapters) to find the name of your device, then right-click (or tap and hold) it, and select Update Driver. For example, to update a graphics card driver, expand the Display adapters category, right click your graphics card, and select Update Driver.
    3. Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
    4. If Windows doesn't find a new driver, you can try looking for one on the device manufacturer's website and follow their instructions.

Please let us know if this had resolve your concern so that we could further assist you.

    Best Regards,

    Anthony

Thank your for the reply. Well, as I said, I have done those things already. Unfortunately it's still not fixed.

I reinstalled their drivers in this way, didn't work.

I reinstalled newer drivers from the Microsoft Update Catalogue, and yet didn't work.

    • If these steps don't work, try reinstalling the driver: Open Device Manager, right-click (or tap and hold) the name of the device, and selectUninstall. Restart your PC, and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver. If that step didn't work, try theWindows Update Troubleshooter**.

As I said, I have reinstalled by uninstalling already. Didn't work. And the troubleshooter found some problems for Windows Update (potential old Database, yellow exclamation mark; everything else got green.) I got an update, but still doesn't work.

Something I had not mentioned yet. I had used a tool to update drivers (Driver Booster). This I had used only in my first Windows installation. Then, when the problem started, I reinstalled windows with every personal information and software etc. erased. When reinstalling Windows, the drivers get erased and reinstalled too, right? I haven't used that third party tool again on my latest windows installation... (I was wondering, would a recovery image erase and replace all the drivers, so it would become "clean" like a first start? If so, I would even do this, if there is no other way...)

Another thing, Whenever I reinstall the drivers for the cameras, the rear camera makes some clicking noises when it reinstalls the drivers. I think this is because the hardware turns on right? just wanted to mention these things...

I don't get it, because I have not used the camera at all, just at the beginning when I started the Book for the first time it went on for this Windows Hello Software... but never again have I used the camera. Since it worked at the beginning, it can't be a hardware problem, right (the notebook is 2 days old, and didn't do physical damage to it etc.)

How did you reinstall Windows? Did you use the recovery image from

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surfacerecoveryimage and update Windows

after that? Do NOT use Driver Booster or any third party updated. Use ONLY the official recovery image and Windows Update.

    Does anything in

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/apps_windows_10-camera/camera-not-working-error-code/1c9b31d8-3175-4331-83b6-43f53d9b5e64

help if you do a proper reimage and still have this issue?
