Battery of Surface Book 2 Not Charging - Both with Main Charger and USB-C One

Greetings,

Around a month ago, my Surface's magnetic pin-based charger (the main one) stopped working. It wasn't charging from the keyboard side, but I didn't check the tablet part. After checking out the charger and what was wrong with it I found out some internal electronics got fried so it was unusable. I got a new charger but the Surface still wouldn't charge. After cross-checking the laptop with another original surface charger, the same outcome emerged. The laptop wasn't charging. I then saw that only the keyboard didn't charge but the tablet did, and via USB-C the laptop could also get charged. So, I switched to USB-C charging and have been using that up until now.

However, now, the laptop stopped charging completely and stays endlessly at the dead battery screen. The battery is old and worn out as the laptop is 5 or so years old but it doesn't mean it's completely dysfunctional.

After visiting my Microsoft account and submitting a repair request, I saw that the only option was to get a refurbished laptop that cost around 600 euros. I just want to get it fixed so I can transfer my data and use it as it is now. How is that possible?

I live in the city of Groningen, Netherlands. Are there any service repair stores I can visit or submit some local requests here? I imagine there are other options than just getting a refurbished laptop.

    Hello NickVieru,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your Surface Book. It sounds like you've already tried a few troubleshooting steps, but it's possible that there may be an issue with the battery or the charging port.

When it comes to repair choices, Microsoft only offers the option to replace your Surface Book rather than repair it.

There may also be third-party repair shops in your area that specialize in Surface devices. However, from a Microsoft standpoint, we couldn't recommend any specific repair shop. I would recommend doing some research and reading reviews to find a reputable repair shop. Please note that any repairs done by a third-party may void your warranty with Microsoft.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia

    Hey Lavenia,

My warranty has long expired. I imagine if I were within it's period, the refurbished laptop would be free or very cheap.

That's very weird that Microsoft has no repair shops nor service to repair their specialized laptops as a lot of electricians or laptop repair specialists don't even want to attempt to repair the Surface Laptops as they're so difficult to open and handle. That's why it seems like it would be much more suitable for Microsoft to have their own repair services that can actually help customers with hardware issues that cannot be resolved by simple or more advanced software-based troubleshooting steps.

This is a suggestion to Microsoft as I experienced multiple problems with this laptop and I imagine so did others

As a follow-up to your reply, what model will the refurbished laptop be? Is it the same year as the Surface Book 2 I currently have?

I imagine the specs are the same but I am wondering about the year of the laptop as this surface is at least 6-7 years old (year of production), so a refurbished one for 600 or so euros does not necessarily seem like a good deal.

    Kind regards,

    Nick
