MANUAL KEYBOARD RELEASE MICROSOFT SURFACE BOOK 2

Hi everyone, 

The keyboard/ base of my laptop has stopped responding/working, and has now gone flat. 

Is there any way to do a manual release of keyboard with a flat battery.  I want to test to see if I can change directly to the tablet screen by itself, and hopefully do a backup before I send off for warranty. 

The detach button on the keyboard doesn't seem to work,  the power doesn't seem to be getting through the base keyboard part to the tablet. 

Any help or advice would be apprecitated.
