Windows Hello went from being lightening quick to taking long to recognise me and never works in dim conditions now

My laptop is fairly new. In the first few days of owning my Surface laptop 7, window hello felt amazingly fast and even worked in dark rooms. Now? I'm staring at the screen for bout 2 seconds waiting to see if its going to fail or eventually recognize me. It also does not work when lighting conditions get dim. I have no idea what changed its effectiveness. My laptop barely has anything on it since its new.

I am currently at the opinion that windows is no longer using the IR camera and is just relying on the regular camera now for some reason.

What I've tried

  • Removing windows Hello as a sign in option and setting it up again after restarting my laptop
  • Setting it up in great lighting
  • Making sure my screen and camera are clean
  • Using the improve recognition option
  • Using it up with my glasses on and off

Nothing works. Windows hello was my favorite thing about my new laptop about 4 weeks ago but now I'm considering just disabling it and using a pin. Frustrating.
