Hello,

I recently purchased the new surface laptop and dock. What I have noticed is when I plug my logitech into the dock and the laptop is off the audio provides a small hum till it turns on. The second thing is when I'm on calls on apps like zoom the persons I'm speaking to has speaker static. I tested going back to the laptop speakers and the were fine.

Here is a link to some audio from a call this morning (you can hear it at the 11 second mark) - https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1c5XQFT1a7Fha_JkFWv-EYJsuq4wtirQs?usp=sharing

    Hi Jarryd,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

It sounds like you're experiencing some interference or grounding issues with your Surface Dock 2 and Logitech speakers. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Addressing the Hum When the Laptop is Off

    1. Check for Ground Loop Issues:
    • A common cause of hum or buzz when the device is off is a ground loop. You can try using a ground loop isolator to see if it eliminates the hum.
    1. Try Different Power Outlets:
    • Plug your Surface Dock 2 and laptop into different power outlets or a power strip with good surge protection. Sometimes, hums are caused by electrical interference.
    1. Unplug and Replug the Dock:
    • When you are not using your laptop, you can unplug the Surface Dock 2 to see if the hum persists.

Addressing Static During Calls on Apps Like Zoom

    1. Update Drivers and Firmware:
    • Ensure that your Surface Dock 2 and Surface Laptop have the latest drivers and firmware installed. You can check for updates via the Windows Update or through the Surface app.
    1. Disable Enhancements:
    • Go to the Sound settings in Windows:
    • Right-click the sound icon in the system tray and select Sounds.
    • Go to the Playback tab, select your Logitech speakers, and click Properties.
    • Go to the Enhancements tab and check the Disable all enhancements box.
    • Apply the changes and see if this resolves the issue.
    1. Run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit: Fix common Surface problems using the Surface app and Surface Diagnostic Toolkit - Microsoft Support
    2. Manually update the Surface Dock. Go to Surface Tools for IT and click download, search for msi file named *Surface_Dock_FwUpdate.*and install the .amd64 build.
    3. Try testing it in another application, or connect external speakers or headphones to another host device and verify that the headphones or speakers work properly.

If the problem is not resolved, there is likely a hardware problem with the Surface Dock. How to get service or repair for Surface - Microsoft Support

I hope this helps. If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Your Sincerely
