How do I remove Edge Business and used Edge Consumer? How did I get forced onto this version?

I'm on macOS (14.4.1) and have been using Edge for a few years. This week something very frustrating happened: after an update, I had two new buttons in my address bar section: a big blue "Invite" button to the right, and a "Workspaces" button to the left. Additionally, a workspace was somehow created based on my current browsing session. My favourites bar items were gone (still there in the root account, but not in this workspace).

I do not want any of these features from the business version of Edge, nor am I aware of how I was forced onto the business version (I'm 100% sure I never installed the business version).

In the version of Edge I have installed (123.0.2420.65 (Official build) (arm64)), when I go into settings, I see two results when searching for "workspaces", which confirms to me this is the business version of Edge.

I thought this would be as simple as downloading the consumer version of Edge and re-installing it, but no, that didn't help. I then did a full uninstall using CleanMyMacX, and a re-install of the consumer version, yet the business "bits" persist. I then went digging deep into folders, deleting any trace of Edge after I uninstalled it again. Then I installed the consumer version. "Workspaces" is still there. 😤 I poked around in the profile sync settings, thinking maybe there was some kind of "workspaces sync" but didn't find anything.

On my work laptop, where I've installed the consumer version of Edge (ironic, I know), and where the settings has no search results for workspaces, it is version 123.0.2420.53 and auto-checking in the browser says this is the latest version.

I know in the business version I can hide the workspaces button, and the big blue "Invite" button did go away after an install, but I have zero desire to have this happen again and very much want to be using the consumer version of Edge.

So here's the question: where/how/why is my system picking up these "business" features? How do I fully expunge them and get back to the consumer version of Edge?

Icing on the cake?

The download for Edge consumer? MicrosoftEdge-123.0.2420.65.pkg

The download for Edge business? MicrosoftEdge-123.0.2420.65.pkg

Why for the love of all things holy would Microsoft not have a slightly different version number to help avoid this confusion? 🤦‍♂️

    Hi JasonRDunn,

You don't need to uninstall it.

When you log in to your work account in Edge browser, it will automatically switch to the business version.

This means that if you don't log in with a work account, it is always a consumer version.

    Hello,JasonRDunn

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft community.

Understanding that you would like the "Workspace" button to disappear completely, but the current consumer version we are using does have a workspace option, and it can be confusing and inconvenient to have the same version number for the Consumer Edition and the Business Edition. I understand your frustration and respect the fact that a more personalised and customised solution could be adopted to meet this need, you can submit your ideas and suggestions through shortcut "Alt + Shift + I", and the development team will regularly review submissions for ideas or fixes, this will help more users like you to have a better user experience!

We hope that your issue will be resolved as soon as possible, thank you for your valuable advice and generous spirit to this end, and wish you all the best.

    Best Regards,

    Rota,

I appreciate that you responded, but I do not believe you understand the issue I am having, so let me re-state it in a different way:

    1. How do I know which version of Edge - business or consumer - that I have installed?
    2. If I have business installed, how do I completely uninstall it?
