Edge app on iOS not asking permissions

I’ve been having this issue since a year ago. The edge app on my iPhone 13 doesn’t ask for permissions such as network access, location, notifications etc. As a result the app is not usable. I have other apple devices with edge working fine. I have other browsers on this iPhone 13 also working fine.

I know there are a lot of discussions on this subject in both Microsoft and Apple discussion forums since two years ago but no one ever got a solution. After digging I found that the permissions asked on my other working devices looks like this:

However the same screen on my iPhone 13 shows much less entries:

This explains why the app doesn’t have internet. It did even ask for internet access!

I definitely tried reboot, reinstall, and both the software and firmware are up to date. Just don’t know a proper way to let the app ASK for those access from the iOS system. Not everyone has this issue in my organization, but I really don’t know what is unique in my iPhone 13 that makes the Edge app so shy.

I believe it will be helpful if someone can pass this information to the developers so they can make sure the app ask for proper permission at least on its first start after installation, or provide information on how to deal with this.

Thanks for your reply. My update is that the IT department in the company has helped with this issue by tweaking some settings of my work account. Now it’s working. Didn’t expect the IT person can control the apps on the managed device in such way.

    Hi YafeiLiu2,

Welcome to the Microsoft community and thank you for asking your question in the community!

I understand that you are experiencing issues with permission settings in the IOS version of Edge.

I have tried to set the same permissions as you have, but I am unable to reproduce the problem you have described with permissions not being invoked, and I would recommend that you reach out to the Microsoft Edge development department by taking the following steps

    • In the address bar, type
      edge://sync-internals

    • Click "Go".
    • Click on the menu "..." > "Send Feedback".
    • Under "Describe what happened", describe your synchronization problem. Provide as much detail as possible about the issue.
    • Turn on "Send device info" and "Include this screenshot".
    • Click "Send".

Thank you again for your understanding and support! Please let me know if I have misunderstood. Tell us the results and we will get back to you as soon as possible. We look forward to hearing from you.

    Best regards,

I noticed you clicked "Not Helpful" on my previous reply. I'm very sorry that I didn't understand your previous description of the problem, and I apologize profusely for that. At the same time, I'm glad your question was answered.

I also understand why your Edge isn't requesting permission to use it, your company's IT department manages the permissions for the apps you log into from your work account and I didn't think of that for you at the time. We'll take note of your answer to help more users who have the same question as you.

Feel free to come back to the Microsoft Community to ask questions the next time you have an issue, we're always happy to hear from you!

Thanks again for your understanding and support!

    Best regards,

    Yang.Z
