Mcafee Notifications.

So, I don't like the mcafee antivirus, so I installed a different antivirus. My mcafee free trial expired about a year ago, but it still has annoying popups every hour that get in the way of whatever I'm doing and tell me I have no protection and need to buy their subscription. I tried uninstalling mcafee on one of my computers, and then the computer wouldn't boot. It took me 10+ hours of trouble shooting before I figured out the manufactor put in something into the bios to prevent it from booting without mcafee. I don't want to have to do that again with my other computer, even though it is a different manufacturer.

Anyway, these notifications and numorous other things have caused me to develop a passionate hatred of mcafee. Right now all I want to do is disable these notifications.

I tried disabling mcafee from booting but even when disabled it still boots with the computer and launches 20+ processes spamming notifications constantly.

Supposedly there is a way to disable notifications, and I googled how to do it. The issue is I have to access the settings tab of mcafee, and I can only change the settings if I spend 30$+ to buy mcafee with an agreement for a subscription. Essentially I can't disable the notifications till after I pay them money. The entire reason I want to disable the notifications is cause I'm tired of them constantly asking me to pay them money, so that defeats the whole purpose and isn't an option.

I've tried uninstalling on one of my computers, but it has a catch 22 in that BIOS where it won't boot if it's not active and installed, so I'm not allowed to uninstall it, or else it ransoms my computer.

So, my question is how do I get mcafee to stop spamming notifications every 2 hours asking for my money.

Right now I hate mcafee, and I really want it to stop. I've put up with this harassment for a year already. Please let it end.

Before reinstalling Windows, run the mcAfee Removal Tool. https://www.mcafee.com/support/s/article/000001616?language=en_US
If at some point in the future that link is no good, search for McaFee Removal Tool and download it from mcafee.com not some third-party site.

    • Hi, I'm Elise, and I'd be happy to help with your issue.

I'm not sure what process is stopping the PC from booting but it is unlikely to be BIOS related which would mean that if you do a reinstall of Windows that would clear all manufacturer software that was installed, including any trace of McAfee.

To create installation media, please follow these instructions:

    https://support.microsoft.com/windows/99a58364-...

Once you have this you can just boot onto the USB and clear your existing installation and start fresh.

Make sure you backup anything you need from your PC first as it will delete everything.

    Kind Regards,

    Elise
