Error Sharing Copilot Studio Agent Link: "Something went wrong"

When sharing a link to a custom agent built in Copilot Studio, the end user receives a "Something went wrong" message instead of accessing the agent. The troubleshooting section of the "Publish and manage Copilot Studio agent builder agents" documentation mentions that "when sharing an agent and its knowledge sources, you might encounter the errors listed in the following table."

What steps can be taken to resolve this issue, and what might be causing it in the first place? Each person receiving the link should have access to Copilot and the documents included in the agent's knowledge base.

    Hi Jordan,

The "Something went wrong" error when sharing Copilot Studio agent links is usually caused by permissions, licensing, or configuration issues. To troubleshoot, first make sure all users have the correct Copilot for Microsoft 365 license, belong to the right tenant, and that the agent is published to the correct audience. Also, check that users have access to all documents in the agent’s knowledge base, including SharePoint, OneDrive, or any external sources being used.

Next, review the agent’s configuration in Copilot Studio. Ensure it’s properly published (not still in draft), that sharing settings are correct, and no restricted access policies are blocking it. You can test this by opening the link yourself in a different browser or incognito mode, then trying with admin accounts and other users who have explicit access. If documents are linked in the knowledge base, confirm that users can access those files directly and that no links are broken.

For sharing settings, go to Copilot Studio → Agent → Settings → Security, and verify who has access. If issues continue, try creating a test agent with minimal knowledge sources, share it with a small group, and then gradually add more complexity. Reviewing activity logs in Copilot Studio, the Microsoft 365 admin center, and SharePoint can also help identify errors.

If direct sharing doesn’t work, consider alternatives like embedding the agent in Teams, publishing to a Teams channel, or using SharePoint embedding. If the problem persists, collect error timestamps, document user permissions/licensing, and raise a support ticket with Microsoft.
