Hi Geoffrey,
Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.
Yes, it is possible for a Microsoft Teams meeting to be recorded without you, as an individual participant, ever pressing the "Record" button. This can happen in a few ways:
1.Automatic Recording for Scheduled Meetings:
- The meeting organizer can set a scheduled Teams meeting to "Record and transcribe automatically." This option is found in the "Meeting options" for a scheduled meeting in Teams or Outlook Calendar. If this setting is enabled, the recording will start automatically when the first participant joins the meeting. You won't need to press anything.
- To activate this, the organizer needs to be the meeting organizer, have delegate access to the organizer's calendar, or have edit access to the calendar. 2.Another Participant Records:
- Any participant in the meeting who has the necessary permissions (typically someone from the same organization as the organizer, with cloud recording policies enabled by their IT admin) can manually start and stop a recording.
- If someone else initiates the recording, it will capture the meeting, and you will not need to take any action on your end. Everyone in the meeting is usually notified by a banner when recording begins.
Key Points about Official Teams Recordings:
- Storage Location: Official Teams meeting recordings are saved to OneDrive for Business (for non-channel meetings) or SharePoint (for channel meetings).
- Accessing Recordings: After a meeting ends, the recording will typically appear in the meeting chat or channel conversation. The organizer and other eligible attendees will receive a notification and can access it.
- Permissions: By default, the meeting organizer and the person who started the recording have full permissions. Other meeting invitees from the same organization usually get view-only access. External participants or guests often need the recording explicitly shared with them.
I hope this clarifies your concern! We truly appreciate your patience and understanding. If you need any further assistance or clarification, feel free to reach out—we're here to help. Have a wonderful day!
