How do I get my authentication app to connect to my account?

I’m trying to add my account to the authentication app, that way I can use it to approve a sign in request in the outlook app. But when I try to add the account to the authentication app, it says to approve the sign in by entering the number given into the app, but I’m already in the app. I’m stuck in like a never ending loop.
