Outlook Office Settings disabled

Since a couple of weeks, most of the settings in Outlook Office online have been greyed out. I can only open Mail -> Conditional Formatting or Mail -> Quick Steps. I can't make any rules anymore, for example.

To my knowledge, I haven't changed anything. I'm the owner and single user of the business account.

    Hi IreneMO_18,

    Good day.

Thank you for posting to the Microsoft Community. We are glad to assist.

It sounds like there might be an issue with your Outlook settings or permissions. Here are a few possible reasons and solutions to help you troubleshoot:

    Browser Issues

    • Sometimes, the browser you’re using can cause features to be greyed out. Try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser to see if that resolves the issue.
    • If possible, try opening Outlook in InPrivate mode (in Edge or Chrome) to rule out any conflicts with cached data or extensions.

    Outlook Web App Settings

    • Sometimes, settings might be controlled by Outlook web settings that could have been altered unintentionally. Check for any changes that might be affecting functionality, particularly if your organization has any automated policies for the Outlook Web App.
    • If you're part of a Microsoft 365 business environment, it's also worth checking if the admin has set any policies that restrict your access to certain features.

    License or Subscription Problem

    • If there’s an issue with your Office 365 subscription (e.g., expired or downgraded), some features may become unavailable. Check your subscription status in your Microsoft 365 account portal.
    • Make sure you have the appropriate plan (e.g., Business Standard or Business Premium) that supports the features you need.

    Try Outlook Desktop App

    • If possible, try using the Outlook desktop client to see if the issue persists there. Sometimes, features might work fine in the desktop app even if they’re unavailable in the web version.

I hope this helps let me know if this is contrary to what you need, I would still be helpful to answer more of your questions.

    Best Regards

Thank you for your reply. See my observations below:

    Browser Issues

    • Private mode showed the same issues.

    Outlook Web App Settings

    • Sometimes, settings might be controlled by Outlook web settings that could have been altered unintentionally. Check for any changes that might be affecting functionality, particularly if your organization has any automated policies for the Outlook Web App.
    • How do I do this? I'm the admin.
    • If you're part of a Microsoft 365 business environment, it's also worth checking if the admin has set any policies that restrict your access to certain features.
    • How do I do this? I'm the admin.

    • I have no issue with my subscription. I have Business Basic and it worked until now. Business Basic doesn't state that it shouldn't have these features.

    Try Outlook Desktop App

    • If possible, try using the Outlook desktop client to see if the issue persists there. Sometimes, features might work fine in the desktop app even if they’re unavailable in the web version.
    • I can't because I have Business Basic.
