Why am I unable to add a new contact to a Distribution List

No matter how many times I try, I am unable to add a new email contact to a Distribution List. The 'add' button is greyed out. When I try and enter the information I get an error message telling me to try again later. It's usually so straight forward.

    Dear Penny,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community.

From your description, it sounds like you are trying to add new contact to a Distribution list. To assist you better, could you provide a few details?

    • Are you a user or the Admin of the organization?
    • Are you using Outlook Web or the Microsoft 365 Admin Center to add the contact?
    • Do you have permission to edit the Distribution List? Because Only designated owners or administrators can modify the list. If you're not one, you’ll need permission from an admin. Some organizations enforce strict policies that limit who can modify distribution lists
    • What error message do you see? If possible, please share a screenshot (feel free to hide personal details for privacy).
    • Have other users in your organization reported the same issue?

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you've encountered. We appreciate your patience and are here to help. Looking forward to your response.

    Best regards
