How can my adult son access our shared Microsoft 365 account without requiring an authorization security code from me?

My college aged son cannot access our shared account without requesting an authorization security code from me. It’s irritating because he needs to be able to access MS 365 and he always has to call me to see if I’ve received a code.

    Hello, Robinpro6

Thanks for your post in Microsoft community.

I realize that although your son is an adult, he still needs authorization security code from you. I understand the inconvenience this may have caused.

To avoid any misunderstanding, I would like to ask you:

When you mentioned that you have a "shared Microsoft 365 account," do you mean that you and your son each have separate Microsoft accounts and have joined the same Microsoft family group to share a Microsoft 365 Family subscription? Please feel free to correct me if my understanding is wrong.

    I would like to explain:

Typically, child accounts require parental consent.

Although your son is an adult, his Microsoft account might have an incorrect birth date set, causing Microsoft to still treat his account as a child account.

You can try to let your son change the birth date of his account.

    • Log in with your son's account on this website: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2189464
    • Select "I’m a parent or guardian" or "I need to ask parent or guardian" and log in with your account to provide consent for your son's account.
    • Change the birth date and save it.
