Dear Karan,
Good day! Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community. I am happy to help you.
I apologize for the experience you have had with this issue.
Regarding your situation, it looks like Word for iOS ran into an issue (could be unstable internet connection, a sync error with AutoSave and OneDrive) causing your file to disappear.
Therefore, I kindly recommend you try these following steps to recover your file:
- Check OneDrive’s Recycle Bin
- Check Recent Files in Word
- Open the Word app
- Tap Open > Recent
- Look for your file because sometimes it’s saved locally even if not synced
- Check OneDrive Version History
- In OneDrive, find the folder where the file was
- Tap the three dots (•••) next to the file (if it reappears)
- Choose Version History to see older versions
- Copy the content of the older version to a new Word file and Save
- Search for the file on OneDrive
- Use the search bar in OneDrive to search by part of the file name or keywords from the document
I would like to suggest some useful tips for the future:
- Always make sure the file is saved before closing the app
- If renaming doesn't work, try saving a copy of it instead
- Consider working on a local copy and uploading it later if your connection is unstable
I hope this could help you with resolving the issue! I look forward to your update.
