SharePoint 'New files were uploaded to your request for' alert spam

Hello

Recently we've had a number of users complain they have been getting email spammed by a new SharePoint alert, informing them 'New files were uploaded to your request for [Folder in Document library]', and I'm wondering how we can disable these alerts?

The files are being uploaded to the document library via an MS Form with a Power Automate Flow, however as far as I can tell, these aren't standard SharePoint alerts nor are they being caused by a Power Automate flow, the alerts are fairly nondescript so I'm not sure what more info I can provide, could someone please provide me a clue as to where these alerts are coming from and how I can stop them?

How is how the alert looks:

Thank you,

Sam

Hey all - one of my amazing team members figured this out.

Turns out the notification is coming from OneDrive notification settings.

Open this url (for your tenant): https://TENANTNAME-my.sharepoint.com/?p=22

You need to disable email notification when others upload files to your file requests. The same notifications come in when someone adds files to OneDrive folders, but that email has an unsubscribe/change notifications link.

The new Forms/OneDrive notification email lacks that link.

    Hi SamHntu

Welcome to Microsoft Community! I am happy to help.

Based on your information, you can ask your users to manually disable the alerts themselves, or you can help them turn if off in the SharePoint site Admin.

Users can disable the alerts following this article Manage, view, or delete SharePoint alerts - Microsoft Support

As a SharePoint Admin, you can delete the alerts for other users with these steps:

    • Go to Site Settings.
    • Under Site Administration, click "User Alerts".
    • Select a user and view all alerts they have on the site.
    • Delete them

If none of the above steps doesn’t work, it’s suggested that you raise a ticket in the Microsoft Admin center. The Technical Support Engineer will investigate the root cause of the issue and provide you with relatable solutions.

I'm sorry for this inconvenience. Your kindness and understanding is highly appreciated.

    Best regards,

My organization can confirm we're seeing these emails as well. Things I checked:

    • Alerts for the user/library: there are none
    • Alerts for the site: there are none
    • Rules for the library: there are none
    • Flows for the library: there are none

This scenario is happening when a MS Forms survey is created with a file-upload question. The survey is attached to a M365 Group/Team, so it adds the file to a folder in a path like this: /teams/TEAMNAME/Documents/Apps/Microsoft Forms/

This email happens when email alerts are turned on for new survey responses. It sends one email about the new survey response and a second about the file being uploaded.

The alert links to the Document that has been added to the library.

Is there any way to disable these emails/a setting that we're missing in MS Forms or the SharePoint site?

    Thanks,

    Tara

Exact same for us... frustrating spam that we need to prevent.
