Automatic correction in iPad Word

My iPad Word automatically corrects some words, I don't know what to do to stop this automatic correction. For example, I want to write "an" and it always corrects to "na". This hinders the performance of the app.

    Dear Caroline Saldanha Custodio,

    Welcome to the community!

Here are some suggestions to troubleshoot your issue:

First of all, you should Disable Autocorrect in Microsoft Word

    1. Open Word Settings:
      • Open Microsoft Word on your iPad.
      • Tap the three-dot menu (or the "File" menu, depending on your version) in the top-left corner.
      • Go to Settings or Preferences.
    2. Turn Off Autocorrect:
      • Look for Proofing or AutoCorrect Options.
      • Toggle off AutoCorrect or uncheck options like "Replace text as you type."
      • If you see specific corrections (e.g., "an" to "na"), you can delete those entries from the AutoCorrect list.
    3. Save Changes:
      • Confirm and save any changes, then test by typing in a document.

Then, you can Disable Autocorrect on iPad (System-Wide). Since Word may rely on the iPad’s keyboard settings for autocorrect, you can turn it off at the system level:

    1. Go to iPad Settings:
      • Open the Settings app on your iPad.
    2. Navigate to Keyboard Settings:
      • Tap General > Keyboard.
      • Select Hardware Keyboard (if using an external keyboard) or proceed directly.
    3. Disable Auto-Correction:
      • Toggle off Auto-Correction.
      • Optionally, turn off Auto-Capitalization or Predictive Text if they’re also causing issues.
    4. Check Text Replacement:
      • In the same Keyboard settings, tap Text Replacement.
      • Look for any custom entries (e.g., "an" to "na") and delete them by swiping left or tapping Edit.

If you want any further information or support, please let me know!

    Best Regards,

I can't find the settings option or anything related to automatic correction. The options in the app are very limited.

    Dear Caroline Saldanha Custodio,

To better understand the issue you're facing, could you please provide more information about the version of Word and iOS on your iPad? Can you try to update version Word and iOS? The methods mentioned above can resolve the problem in specific cases.

You probably have to turn off the settings for automatic corrections / predictive text provided by the iPad operating system.

I believe that is what Schneider-P has suggested.
