The logo of the custom Canva app, published in Teams via a link, is not visible in the Teams mobile app

I created a custom app in Power Apps for internal use and published it in Teams via link.

Details:

  • Logo/icon: I did not upload a custom logo. I selected the default white background and chose one of the standard Microsoft icons provided in Power Apps.
  • Publishing: The app was published to Teams using the "Publish via link" feature.
  • Issue: On the Teams mobile app, only the white background is visible - the icon itself does not appear. On desktop and web, the icon is shown as expected.

What I tried:

  • Cleared the Teams mobile app cache
  • Removed the app from Teams mobile and re-added it via link
  • Problem persists

Workaround:

If I download the app as a ZIP package and add it manually to Teams, the icon is displayed correctly everywhere - including on Teams mobile. However, this approach is not user-friendly for a larger group of users.

Expected behavior: The Teams app icon (Microsoft standard icon) should be visible on all platforms, including the Teams mobile app.

Question:

  • Has anyone experienced this issue with Microsoft’s default icons when publishing an app via link in Power Apps?
  • Are there any known limitations or additional steps to ensure that the icon is shown correctly in the Teams mobile app?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi @Benjamin Cengic,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum. Let me address your two questions in detail:

    1. Has anyone experienced this issue with Microsoft’s default icons when publishing an app via link in Power Apps?

Yes, this issue has been reported by other users. When using Microsoft’s default icons and publishing via link, the icon may not render properly on the Teams mobile app. This behavior has been observed across multiple environments and devices. For example, users have noted that Power Apps tabs and icons sometimes fail to load correctly on mobile, even though they appear fine on desktop and web clients.

    2. Are there any known limitations or additional steps to ensure that the icon is shown correctly in the Teams mobile app?

Yes, there are known limitations and a recommended workaround. You can try my suggestion: Upload via Teams Admin Center

    To deploy the app organization-wide:

    1. Go to https://admin.teams.microsoft.com
    2. Navigate to Teams apps > Manage apps. > Customize app store like my screenshot bellow and Upload the ZIP file of the Power Apps application (exported from Power Apps):
      User's image
    3. Assign apps to the App setup policy to automatically show them to users (e.g. pin them to the Teams left sidebar)
      User's image

User's image This method may help the app, and its icon are fully recognized by Teams across all platforms.

I hope my suggestions helpful for you! If this workaround does not resolve the issue for your users, please note that this behavior is currently considered a platform limitation. I recommend submitting feedback directly to Microsoft via the https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback or through the Microsoft 365 admin center to help prioritize a fix in future updates.
    Best Regards.
