Hi Andrew,
Thanks for reaching out. I’d be happy to clarify how Teams casting works on the Surface Hub Gen 3.
Currently, when you cast your screen from a laptop to the Surface Hub using the Teams desktop app, the Teams splash page (which includes options like Meet, Call, Share, and Whiteboard) becomes unavailable. This is expected behavior, as the casting session takes over the display and temporarily disables access to those native Teams Room controls.
Here’s what you can do:
- Cast your screen either independently or while joining a scheduled Teams meeting from your laptop.
- Join Teams meetings directly from the Surface Hub when casting isn’t active.
- Share your screen during a Teams meeting, though this is separate from the casting feature.
What’s not currently supported:
- Viewing or interacting with the Teams splash page while casting is active.
- Starting a new Teams meeting from the Surface Hub while casting is ongoing.
Suggested workarounds:
- If you have another Teams Room device in the room, you can use it to join the meeting while continuing to cast to the Surface Hub.
- For smoother transitions, consider pre-scheduling meetings and using the “cast and join” option from your laptop.
I hope this helps clarify the current limitations and available options. If there's anything else you'd like to explore or optimize in your setup, feel free to reach out.
Best regards,
Jeric
