Hello,
I've been working with a user who is unable to access a OneNote Workbook that is shared among their team. It used to be located on their Teams Channel and disappeared on July 17th. Ever since that date, they have been unable to access the workbook.

Some individuals are have the workbook open but are unable to sync the workbook. I can't copy and paste it because onenote doesn't provide this functionality. It's hundreds of pages long and has years of documentation on it.

When they provide a link, it ends to a 404 error message.

A brother needs a helping hand please.

    Hi @Chitanavong, Austin,

Good day! Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum and sharing the detail.

Regarding the trouble accessing your shared OneNote workbook, I understand the value of your documentation and am here to assist with a series of troubleshooting steps. Please try the following and update me with the outcome. Troubleshooting steps to attempt:

    Check the SharePoint/Teams Recycle Bin

    • Navigate to your Teams channel.
    • Click the Files tab.
    • Select Open in SharePoint.
    • User's image
    • In the SharePoint site’s left navigation, choose Recycle bin and look for the missing notebook.
    • Items in the SharePoint recycle bin remain recoverable for 93 days before permanent removal.

Check the OneNote Notebook Recycle Bin: open the shared notebook in the OneNote desktop application.

    • Go to the History tab and select Notebook Recycle Bin.
    • Locate any missing pages or sections and attempt to restore them.
    • Items in the Notebook Recycle Bin remain recoverable for 60 days before permanent deletion.

Reconnect or Refresh the OneNote Tab in Teams

    • In your Microsoft Teams channel, try re-adding the OneNote notebook tab.
    • Click the + icon to add a new tab, select OneNote, and link it to the existing notebook.
    • This step can restore accessibility to missing content by refreshing the connection.

Note: the SharePoint/Teams recycle bin stores deleted files for 93 days, while the OneNote Notebook Recycle Bin in the desktop app keeps deleted content for 60 days. It is important to act promptly, as once these periods pass, items cannot be recovered.
If you still cannot see after trying the above offers, please reach out to your organization's SharePoint Online (SPO) administrator or Microsoft 365 global administrator. They can investigate further and attempt recovery through backend tools or audit logs if the file still exists in the system.

Once you have completed these steps, please let me know your findings or if you encounter any issues. I am ready to assist further based on your update.
