Hello David. It's necessary to fix Outlook so it has access to your email since Verizon now operates under AOL and to have the account working, you would manually configure it using IMAP settings and also create an AOL app-specific password too. First sign into your AOL account to create an app password via the Account Security page, and select "Outlook Desktop" as the app type. Afterwards on your Outlook window, go to File > Account Settings > New. When prompted to select an option, choose the manual setup type. For incoming mail, use imap.aol.com and port 993 with SSL encryption type; and for outgoing mail, use smtp.verizon.net and port 465 with SSL encryption also. When entering your username, make sure you are using your full Verizon email address; and when entering your password, the app password you created as your email account password, instead of your typical AOL login. When past the password step, make sure you have SMTP Authentication selected under More Settings, then also test the account to make sure everything connects successfully. These manual setup steps reasonably take precedence over the often inaccurate defaults that the Outlook program will apply to (and automatically) configure especially for the Verizon/AOL accounts. If the setup runs into issues, just double-check the server/port values, or, go to the AOL account setup documentation and make sure all the same values match before retrying.
