I noticed this morning that under the blue dot (unread email) on my iphone that there was a curved right arrow signifying forwarding of my email. I did not forward the email. What is happening? I checked my account and do not have that option enabled.

It’s good to hear you've discovered and removed the unauthorized forwarding rule and changed your password, those are crucial first steps. Now Use an authenticator app (e.g., Google Authenticator, Authy) or a security key rather than SMS, which is vulnerable to SIM swap attacks. Save backup codes securely.

Hi Lorraine, this is Kimberly, an independent advisor, I'm glad to assist you today.

It’s highly likely that what you're seeing isn’t your email actually being automatically forwarded by someone, it's simply the Mail app showing a “forwarded” indicator on emails you received.

In the iPhone Mail app, a curved arrow pointing right next to an email (just before the unread blue dot) indicates that the email was forwarded by you. A left-angled arrow means “replied.” You mention seeing this on unread emails, that’s consistent with Mail showing the icon even before you’ve tapped it, and it doesn’t impact the mail itself or alter delivery.

The arrow is a status symbol in Mail’s inbox view, not a sign that anyone forwarded your message to someone else or that there’s been external forwarding.

Should you have questions, please let me know.

    Best regards,

    Kimberly
