Family subscription is opening the personal OneDrive

I was using the personal M365 subscription earlier and now I have moved to the family subscription shared by my partner. The issue is, if I want to use the OneDrive from scratch then it switches back to the personal OneDrive and still shows my saved files in there. I am using the same email id though for both these subscriptions.

Please help me to switching my OneDrive to the family subscription.

    Hi Richa,

Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft Community, I understand that you want to moved your personal OneDrive to Family Subscription.

Let’s go through a few steps to help you resolve the issue:

Step 1: Sign Out and Sign In Again

    • Sign Out: Open OneDrive, click the OneDrive icon in the system tray > Settings > Account > Unlink this PC.
    • Sign In Again: Once signed out, restart your PC, then open OneDrive again and sign in with the email associated with the Family subscription.

    Step 2: Check Subscription Status

    • Verify Subscription: Go to Microsoft Account and ensure your Family subscription is active.
    • Confirm Email ID: Ensure the email ID you are using matches the one tied to the Family subscription and not the personal one.

Step 3: Remove Personal OneDrive from Sync

    • Stop Syncing Personal OneDrive: Open the OneDrive settings > Account tab > Unlink this PC for the personal OneDrive account.
    • Reconfigure Sync: After unlinking, sign into your Family subscription account and reconfigure OneDrive to sync the correct folders.

    Step 4: Clear OneDrive Cache

    • Clear Cache: Close OneDrive. Navigate to C:\Users<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneDrive\ and delete the cache folder contents (don’t delete the entire folder).
    • Restart OneDrive: After clearing the cache, restart OneDrive and check if it syncs with the Family subscription.

Step 5: Check OneDrive Settings for Family Subscription

    • Verify Sync Settings: Right-click the OneDrive icon > Settings > Account. Ensure it shows the Family subscription email and not the personal one.
    • Check Shared Folders: Ensure that shared folders from the Family subscription are correctly appearing in your OneDrive.

Please let us know if these steps help resolve the issue, or if you need further assistance. We're here to help!

Microsoft 365 Family is essentially a bundle (package deal) of "personal" accounts. You and everyone joining the family can use the same personal account that they have always used—a standard user or administrator user account. The account that has the subscription applied is the Microsoft 365 plan administrator for that group. He can invite members to join the family and remove members from the family. Each member receives 1TB of OneDrive storage, eliminating the need for separate Microsoft 365 Personal plans. That's a good deal!
