How to fix calendaring problem from Google calendar to Yahoo email to Outlook calendar

Hello,

I'm sending Google calendar invites for a meeting to someone with a Yahoo email that is synced to an Outlook calendar. Something has gone very wrong, and the person cannot delete any invite they've accepted or change them. This has filled their calendar up. They have deleted the app and redownloaded it, and it didn't help. They have tried to delete the invites individually, and nothing happened. They tried to delete the group of invites, and nothing happened. I have uninvited them from everything on my end, but the invites won't go away on their calendar. Has anyone dealt with anything similar to this before? Any advice?

    Dear @Michelotti, Megan,

Good day and thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum regarding the issue with Google Calendar invites sent to a Yahoo email that syncs to Outlook.

Here are some practical steps to try to resolve this issue:

Step 1: Check How the Yahoo Account Is Added to Outlook:

    • If the Yahoo email is added to Outlook as a POP account, calendar syncing issues like stuck invites often occur because POP syncs email only, not calendar or contacts. It should be set up as an IMAP or preferably as an Exchange ActiveSync account if available, which more fully syncs calendar data.
    • You can check this in Outlook under File > Account Settings > Mail > Sync email. If needed, remove and re-add the Yahoo account using IMAP or Exchange setup. User's image

Step 2: Clear the Outlook Calendar Cache:

    • Sometimes corrupt or stuck calendar entries remain due to local cache issues. Clearing the Outlook calendar cache may help.
    • Close Outlook, navigate to %localappdata%\Microsoft\Outlook on the computer, and delete (or rename) the .ost cache file associated with the Yahoo account. Outlook will recreate this cache on restart.

Step 3: Remove or Reset Problematic Calendar Entries via Web Interfaces:

    • Since you mentioned uninviting them on your end didn't remove the events, they can try:
    • Removing calendar events directly via Yahoo Calendar on the web (calendar.yahoo.com) or
    • Checking their Google Calendar (if their Yahoo email was previously associated or logged into a Google Calendar) for lingering invites and deleting them there.
    • Sometimes the invite may be stuck in one of these services and synced back to Outlook.

Here is an official Microsoft document on calendar syncing issues and how to best configure accounts: Add or manage a Yahoo! email account in Outlook - Microsoft Support

In summary, the key points are to ensure the Yahoo account is set up properly in Outlook (IMAP or Exchange), clear cache or recreate the Outlook profile, and check/removal of stuck invites directly through web calendars. This usually solves stuck invite issues caused by sync conflicts.

Please let me know if you need further assistance or detailed steps for any of these recommendations.
