Hello Team,

We have observed multiple attempts to access the following URL from internal systems: "https://d.clarity.ms/collect"

Currently, our proxy is blocking this outbound traffic. Before proceeding with any permanent rule changes, we would like to confirm the following:

  1. Is this URL legitimate and officially associated with any Microsoft service (e.g., Clarity, analytics, or telemetry)?
  2. What is the intended purpose of the /collect endpoint under d.clarity.ms?
  3. Is there any operational or functional impact on Microsoft services or products if this traffic continues to be blocked?
  4. Can we safely block this outbound communication without affecting any Microsoft services used in the environment?

We appreciate your clarification on this matter so we can make an informed decision regarding allowing or continuing to block this traffic.

    Hello Hitesh Sungar

Thank you for using our Microsoft Advertising Learn Q&A Platform!

Please find our response to your questions below:

The URL https://d.clarity.ms/collect is a legitimate endpoint used by Microsoft Clarity, a free behavioral analytics tool provided by Microsoft. This domain is owned and operated by Microsoft.

The /collect path is used by Microsoft Clarity to gather telemetry and user interaction data from websites where Clarity is implemented. This includes anonymized information such as clicks, scroll behavior, and session recordings to help website owners better understand user engagement.

Blocking this endpoint will not impact core Microsoft services (e.g., Microsoft 365, Azure, or Windows OS functions). However, if your organization or any internal web assets use Microsoft Clarity, then blocking this endpoint will prevent Clarity from functioning properly (i.e., no data will be collected or processed).

If you are not using Microsoft Clarity on any internal or public-facing websites, it is generally safe to continue blocking this traffic. If Clarity is in use or intended for future use, we recommend allowing traffic to d.clarity.ms.
