Hi @Wassim Soliman
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
To better assistance, could you please confirm the following:
- Was the plan originally created in Basic Planner and then upgraded to Premium?
- Are you accessing Planner through Microsoft Teams, the Planner web app, or another interface?
- Is the plan linked to a Microsoft 365 Group or a Teams channel?
- Have you checked the Outlook Group mailbox linked to the original plan for task comments?
You can downgrade a Premium plan back to Basic, but there are important limitations:
- Downgrading restores the plan to the state it was in before the upgrade. Any changes made while using Premium (including new tasks, edits, and comments) will not carry over automatically
- Only the user who initiates the downgrade will see both versions in their “My Plans” view. Other team members will lose access to the Premium version unless it’s re-shared manually.
To downgrade:
- Open the details pane for the Premium plan.
- Scroll down and click “Switch back to basic”.
- In the dialog, click “Downgrade plan for everyone”. The process may take a few minutes.

About recovering Comments
- In Basic Planner, comments are stored in the Microsoft 365 Group mailbox. You can access them via Outlook:
- Go to https://outlook.office.com
- Select your plan’s group from the sidebar
- Click Conversation to view historical commentsmicrosoft
- In Premium Planner, comments are expected to be handled via Teams channel conversations, but this feature may not be fully functional yet.
For reference: Comment on tasks in Microsoft Planner
If comments are not visible in either location, you may try using Microsoft Graph API to retrieve them programmatically or consult your IT admin to explore backup or export options.
Important Notes
- There is currently no built-in method to convert Premium plans to Basic without losing updates made during Premium usage.
- If you need to preserve recent changes, consider exporting the Premium plan to Excel and using Power Automate to recreate tasks in a new Basic plan.
