Rename OneNote Notebook

Thank you for your response. I hope you can see this picture - I am trying to change the file name in my OneDrive (business account).

Based on your description, to help you better, can you tell me more details? Like, what happens exactly after you click "Update"—does it show an error message, rename only to "Project Management Toolkit v2", or something else?

In the meantime, I recommend these simple steps to fix it:

1.  Clear your browser cache to make sure the change shows up fresh: In Chrome or Edge, press Ctrl + Shift + Delete (on Windows) or Command + Shift + Delete (on Mac), pick "Cached images and files," set time to "All time," and click "Clear data." Then close and reopen the browser.
2. Try again steps to rename file on OneNote above i recommended.
3. In the box, change the name to something without invalid characters, like "Project Management Toolkit v2 - 0_Oct23" (use "-" instead of "|"). Avoid these bad ones: " * : < > ? / \ | and no spaces at the start or end. Click "Update" . If it works, great! If not, try a shorter name (under 255 letters) or check for other bad characters.

I have try on my enviroment test and result is OK. So you should try it to fix your problem.

If clearing cache doesn't help, try a different browser or the OneDrive app on your computer to rename.

Just to add, we have partial success! When I open the Notebook, I can see that I have been able to change the full title. But in my OneDrive files, it is still the old title. #bemused

I’m here to assist your problem. 

To clarify to you, if you want to rename OneNote App on Desktop, on the left side: Notebooks > Properties > Display name > Edit > OK. It does not affect the actual notebook folder name. 

So you can try to edit display name for your file and sync to your Onedrive:

• On OneNote desktop, on a left-bar, right-mouse on your Onenote file
• Click Properties - Change display name - OK
• After that, you can sync your display name by Sync this notebook (SHIFT+F9)

After that access to OneNote again and see the new display name of your file.
