Hi Jane East,
Welcome to the Q&A Community
I’m here to assist your problem.
To help you better, can you tell me more details:
- Are you using Bussiness account or Personal account?
- What platforms are you using OneNote on (Desktop App or Browser) ?
- Can you provide more details like your step by step rename, or a screenshot of the behavior partial name change for more detailed advice?
To clarify to you, if you want to rename OneNote App on Desktop, on the left side: Notebooks > Properties > Display name > Edit > OK. It does not affect the actual notebook folder name.
In the meantime, I recommend this easy way to rename your OneNote Web:
- Go to the website OneNote in your web browser (like Chrome or Edge). Sign in with the same account you use for OneNote.
- Look in the top-left corner, click on your file’s name (1) – appear Location of your file. Click it to open file location (2) and you can see your files on: My Files - Notebooks
- Right-click on that file and pick "Rename." Type the new name you want
- Click "Update".
- Now, go back to OneNote. Turn on the file you just rename and see the file with a new name.
