How to fix the inbox preview to make the sender's name a larger font than the body

My inbox used to appear with the senders name in a larger font than the preview of the body. Somehow it changed and it is now really difficult for me to look at and understand.

I would appreciate help in changing the inbox preview back to the original layout.

    Hello @McCloskey, Kimberly,

Thank you for posting your feedback in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand how convenience this issue can be.

Please kindly confirm this information so that I can guide you with further troubleshoot steps:

    • What is the affected system operating? (Windows, MacOs, Android, Ios,…)
    • Does this issue happen on New Outlook/Outlook Web or Classic Outlook?
    • Do you have any screenshots describing this issue? (Please remove any personal information before uploading images to this forum)

If the font in Outlook looks smaller than usual, it might be because you've s****witched from Classic Outlook to the New Outlook or Outlook Web version.

To switch back to Classic Outlook:

    • Click the toggle in the top-right corner of the New Outlook (desktop version).
    • User's image
    • Or, type “Outlook Classic” in the Windows search bar and click Open.
    • User's image

In Classic Outlook, you can custom your font with these steps:  Go to the View tab in Outlook.

    1.Click View Settings.

      User's image

    2.Select Conditional Formatting.

3.Click Add to create a new rule (e.g., name it "Sender Highlight").

    4.Click Font... and:

    • Choose a larger font size.
    • Optionally, change the font style or color.
    • User's image

    5.Click OK.

6.You’ll get a warning that no condition is set—click Yes to apply it anyway.

In the New Outlook/Outlook Web version, there's no setting that specifically enlarge the sender's name relative to the body preview, but you can custom the overall layout:

1.Go to View > View Settings.

    2.Select Mail > Layout.

3.Under Text size and spacing, choose your preferred text size (Small, Medium, or Large).

4.Click Save to apply the changes.

    User's image

Temporarily enlarge an email in the Reading Pane in new Outlook

In the Reading Pane, you can also make the contents of an email larger so it’s easier to read.

    • From the menu, select View.
    • Select Zoom. Use the + or - to select your desired size between 50% - 200%. (If Zoom is greyed out, select a message to view it in the Reading Pane.) You can Reset the size at anytime.
