We're having some problems with Teams breakout rooms. Some of the attendees are missing their mics and can't use mics when they join the breakout rooms. It's happening in almost all the meetings. May I know any solutions for this?

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for sharing your experiences, it’s clear this microphone issue in breakout rooms is affecting quite a few users across different setups. I’ve seen reports from both desktop and web users, mainly on Windows, and it seems to happen consistently inside breakout rooms, while everything works fine in the main meeting.  This looks like a recent issue, possibly tied to a Teams update. It’s not limited to one organization or device type, which suggests it may need investigation from the backend side.

While we wait for more clarity, here are a few things that have helped some users:

    • Minimize and maximize the Teams window once inside the breakout room this may refresh the UI and bring the mic button back.
    • Leave and rejoin the breakout room.
    • Use Teams Web App via https://teams.microsoft.com in Edge or Chrome.
    • Check breakout room settings: If you’re the organizer, make sure “Participants can unmute themselves” is enabled.
    • Verify mic permissions in Teams settings: Go to Settings > Devices and confirm the correct mic is selected.

I’re escalating this issue internally so the engineering team can take a closer look. If you’re an IT admin, I recommend submitting a support ticket via the Microsoft 365 Admin Center and checking the Service Health Dashboard for updates.

For detailed instructions on how to get support, please refer to Get support - Microsoft 365 admin.

I'm truly appreciate your patience and detailed feedback. Your reports are helping us better understand the scope and urgency of this issue. Please continue to share any new findings, and we’ll keep you updated as soon as we have more information from the backend investigation.

hi, we have the same issue, we just tried to test it and it is the same for both the host and the attendees if in break out room, once out of the room it works perfectly well. It is all through the browser of Windows users and always every time when logging in. Both the host and the attendee have the updated version of Teams

    Hello,

We are a school that is completely on Teams, and we are experiencing this issue at large. first time the issue was reported was Tuesday the 5th.

The problem seems to be isolated to just breakout rooms, once the classes are finished in break out rooms and move back the main meeting the mic button comes back.

Majority of our users are on windows and using the Desktop app. there have been reports of the same happening with web users Aswell.

So far, we have only experienced it with attendees and not the Hosts. All Users have up to date teams and have cleared Cache to no prevail.

    Hi @Tr. Girasol

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Q&A Support and for your detailed report.

To understand the situation better, could you confirm the following information:

    • When did this issue start?
    • Does it happen in every meeting with breakout rooms or only sometimes?
    • Are the affected users using Teams on Windows, macOS, mobile app, or web?
    • Is the host also experiencing the issue, or just the attendees?
    • Do the affected users have the latest version of Teams?

Your confirmation would be very helpful!

Kindly let me know if these help identify the cause of this issue or if you need further assistance. Any updates you’re able to share would be really helpful. I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing how things are going!

    I also noticed this today.

We have 25 participants and someones have issues, but not everybody. I have windows desktop app and Jabra evolve headphones. Opening mic line from headphones bring button back. We had also breakoutrooms in use.

I think there is now some bug in latest update.
