Mics stop working in breakout rooms on Teams

When using breakout rooms in a teams meeting, the microphone button disappears and the attendees are unable to unmute themselves. Additionally, when they rejoin the main meeting, they sometimes experience microphone issues that cause them to need to leave the meeting and rejoin.

    Hi all,

Thanks so much for confirming those details as they really help clarify the current situation. I’ve heard from other users experiencing similar issues, so it might be a broader concern, even if it’s not yet listed on the Microsoft 365 Service Health dashboard.

I’ll keep watching for any official updates and share them with you as soon as they’re available. If the issue persists after today, reaching out to your IT Admin to open a support ticket with Microsoft in Microsoft 365 Admin Center (including your meeting diagnostics) would be a good next step.

Here’s what your Office 365 Global Admin should do next:

Submit a Service Request: The Global Admin should create a service request with Microsoft support to get advanced technical assistance and diagnostics. For detailed instructions on how to get support, please refer to Get support - Microsoft 365 admin

Hey all! My company has been seeing this as well. I've found that when you're in the breakout room and the mic option is missing, if you tap the "microphone mute" button on your keyboard the icon comes back. Worked for multiple people so far. Easier than having to leave the call and come back.

    Hi all,

    Good day!

Thank you for informing me with details of your current situation with attendees' microphone button being missing in breakout rooms.

I've checked the Microsoft 365 Service Health dashboard and the status for Microsoft Teams is still healthy.

Even though I've seen some helpful workarounds from some users in this thread, I still recommend asking your IT Admin to raise a support ticket in the Admin Center so this issue could be investigated further and fixed.

Therefore, here’s what your Office 365 Global Admin should do next:

Submit a Service Request: The Global Admin should create a service request with Microsoft support to get advanced technical assistance and diagnostics. For detailed instructions on how to get support, please refer to Get support - Microsoft 365 admin

Our IT Admin has informed us that this is now resolved. Is anyone else still experiencing the issue?

    Dear @Hannah,

Good day! Welcome to Q&A forum!

To understand the situation better, could you confirm the following information:

    • Is the issue happening to everyone or just certain people? When did this issue start?
    • Does it happen in every meeting with breakout rooms or only sometimes?
    • Are the affected users using Teams on Windows, macOS, mobile app, or web?
    • Is the host also experiencing the issue, or just the attendees?
    • Do the affected users have the latest version of Teams?

Your confirmation would be very helpful!

Kindly let me know if there are any updates or if you need further assistance. Any updates you’re able to share would be really helpful. I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing how things are going!
