When will Microsoft finally roll back the Search box in OneNote so it no longer covers most of the screen?

In OneNote, the Search option used to be in the far right side and it worked fine where it was.

Then Someone had a bad idea and moved it to then be an ALWAYS ON TOP element that can't be moved or disabled and placed it in the very center of the app so it was always covering up part of the main notes window.

A new Update was just released that DID NOT fix the issue but instead of moving the Search box back to where it was (Like EVERYONE asked), instead Microsoft left it in the middle of the screen and it is still an ALWAYS ON TOP element that can't be moved or disabled, but they did make it slightly smaller when not in use, but when you do actually need to use the search, it now covers up 98% of the main notes window so you cant even see if the search result you clicked on is actually what you are looking for, making the entire search box useless.

So my question is, when is Microsoft actually going to listen to users and actually roll OneNote back the the working version it was a year ago before they broke the app instead of trying to force people to accept an ALWAYS ON TOP search in the very middle of the app that can't be moved or turned off?

BTW, no one ever asked for this, it was not like it was part of a big redesign of the app. literally the one and only thing that was changed was to turn the search box into an ALWAYS ON TOP box that make the app almost unusable and makes the search function in the app actually unusable.

Microsoft, you could literally fix this in 20 seconds. DO NOT try to make another update to "fix" it. You have the code for the version of the app from a year ago before it was broken, just push that out as an "update" and roll the app back to when it worked, and then leave it alone.

    Hi Jesse C

Good day to you! Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience with OneNote. I really appreciate your honesty, and I can tell how frustrating this change has been for you.

I’ve seen similar feedback from other users, and I completely understand why the new search box design being always on top and stuck in the middle of the screen feels intrusive and makes the app harder to use. It’s especially frustrating when a feature that used to work well suddenly changes without a clear reason, and the update doesn’t address the core issue.

As a moderator, I want to be upfront: I don’t have any control over how the app is developed or updated. But I do strongly recommend that you submit your feedback directly to the OneNote team through Microsoft’s official feedback portal

User's image The more users who speak up, the more likely it is that the team will take action and consider rolling back or improving the feature. I know it’s not ideal, but this is the best way to make your voice heard by the people who can actually make the change.

Thanks again for being so clear and passionate in your message and if there’s anything else I can help with, just let me know. I’m here for you!
