There is an issue with Windows Update indicating that the system is up to date, yet it also states that some important safety updates are missing. Attempts to manually check for updates result in a loading screen that stops without any action. Previous steps suggested by William Y were followed, but the issue persists. What further actions can be taken to resolve this?

Wasn't sure what tags to give it.

    Hi Richard,

    1. Please run "winver.exe" and post a screenshot.
    2. Run msinfo32.exe, and click System Summary. Resize the columns in the right pane to make the entries visible, and post a screenshot.

    Hi Richard,

1] The system is running Windows 11 version 21H2, which has reached the end of servicing many years ago. Your CPU (Intel i5-10400F) supports Windows 11 24H2. Howver, before upgrading to 24H2, you need to enable TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot in the UEFI settings.

Let me know after enabling TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot.

2] Since the system is outdated, it's a good idea to check for malware/miners before upgrading to 24H2. Share your Farbar scan logs for analysis.

    • Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool 64-bit FRST64.exe
    • If the OS language is not English, rename FRST64.exe to FRST64English.exe.
    • Run the program. Don't check or uncheck any options. Click "Scan".
    • Add the two logs, FRST.txt and Addition.txt, to a zip archive.
    • Share the zip file on OneDrive or GoFile.io, and post the link here.

Note: If Microsoft Edge or Chrome mislabels the Farbar Scanner executable as PUA/malware, choose to keep it by tapping … in the bottom bar, choosing Keep, and then choosing Keep anyway in the dialog that appears. See this screenshot. It's a safe tool used in most antimalware forums.

I see you were able to enable TPM 2.0. The next step will be to refresh the upgrade assessment so that 24H2 is offered via Windows Update.

Open an admin Command Prompt window and run these two commands:

    CompatTelRunner.exe -m:appraiser.dll -f:DoScheduledTelemetryRun

    schtasks.exe /Run /TN "\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser"

After 5 minutes, run the following command:

    REG QUERY "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\TargetVersionUpgradeExperienceIndicators" /s

    Post the output here.

(The output indicates whether a 24H2 safeguard hold is in place for your system.)
