Hi. I've just noticed my battery icon not changing to the charging icon when plugged in. I thought I might have faulty battery/charger but battery level increased after a few minutes so that means it's definitely charging. Here what I have done so far, restart my PC and updated my Windows to the latest version.

Hi, thanks for sharing what you’ve tried so far. Let’s get this fixed.

Before I give you steps, a few questions to clarify:

    1. Is this a new issue, or did it start after a recent update or hardware change?

Have you checked Device Manager for any warnings on battery or power-related devices?

What’s the make and model of your laptop or device?

Meanwhile, here are some common fixes you can try:

Run the Power Troubleshooter: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Power, and run it.

    • Check Device Manager: Press Windows + X > Device Manager > Under “Batteries,” right-click “Microsoft AC Adapter” and “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery,” and choose “Uninstall device.” Then restart your PC to reinstall the drivers automatically.
    • Reset battery driver: Sometimes, uninstalling and reinstalling the battery drivers fix this glitch.

Check the power plan settings: Go to Control Panel > Power Options and make sure settings related to battery and charging icons are normal.

Update BIOS/UEFI: Some battery reporting issues are fixed in firmware updates. Check your device manufacturer’s website for updates.

If none of these work, let me know your answers to the questions and how these steps go. We’ll get this sorted.

    Great job! That's excellent news.

What you did was a power reset, which discharges residual power and resets the charging logic on many laptops.

If it happens again, that same method is the first thing to try before checking into driver or BIOS updates.

Just keep in mind that if the issue starts becoming frequent, it could be an early sign of a loose charging port, worn battery, or AC adapter starting to fail.
