Why am I unable to add hyperlinks to photos in Outlook for Mac?

I used to be able to add hyperlinks to photos in Outlook, but that option is no longer available when I right-click an image.

I noticed that if I go to Help > Clear Application Data and check all the boxes (including "License"), the hyperlink functionality temporarily returns after restarting. However, it stops working again on subsequent launches.

Has anyone else experienced this issue, and is there a permanent fix?

Currently using Microsoft Outlook for Mac Version 16.99.2.

I also noticed that my text-formatting ribbon looks like this:Screenshot 2025-08-10 at 10.11.53 PM But when I perform the "clear application data" procedure, the text-formatting ribbon changes to this on the first restart, and hyperlink functionality temporarily returns: Screenshot 2025-08-10 at 10.09.20 PM The ribbon reverts back to the first style after subsequent application launches, and photo hyperlinking is no longer possible.

    Hi @VidCraft

Thank you so much for your patience. I’ve taken a close look at this, and I completely understand how frustrating and likely confusing, it must have been, especially with that temporary fix you discovered.

From what I’ve learned, in the New Outlook for Mac, the way we used to add hyperlinks to images has been changed as part of the updated design. This means the feature is no longer available in the same way it used to be.

While I truly wish I had a more permanent solution to offer, there currently isn't a fix or a supported workaround available. We genuinely appreciate feedback like yours, as it plays an important role in helping Microsoft continue to improve the product. I’ve also made sure to raise this internally, so the product team is aware of the impact, and I’d kindly encourage you to share your experience directly as well. You can do this by going to Outlook > Help > Contact Support. Your voice matters, and every bit of feedback helps shape future updates.

In the meantime, if you need to add hyperlinks to images, the Outlook Web App (outlook.office.com) does still support this functionality.

I know this isn't the answer you were hoping for, but I genuinely appreciate your patience and understanding. If there’s anything else I can do to help or clarify, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

    I googled a solution.

    Open a new Word document

Insert the image you want to hyperlink into the Word document

Right click on the image and "link"

    Paste URL

Then copy the image from the Word into the email body.

    It worked for me.

In our Company we have the same problem with the Outlook Version 16.100. To copy the picture from a Word is not working for us.
