I am having some terrible audio crackling issues on my Surface Laptop 7.

It seems to be happening both plugged in to my Surface Doc, and even standalone in my kitchen.

I have tried Audio Troubleshooter, my Windows Updates are all up to date, and I am not sure what else to try?

    Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for posting to the Community. Is this the first time it happened? I see that there is noticeable crackling on the video coming from the device’s speakers. Here are some quick fixes you can try.

    Reinstall the audio driver

Open Device Manager>Sound, video and game controllers >right-click your audio device > Uninstall (click Delete driver). Next is restart your device, then install the latest drivers from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=100429

    Turn off sound effects

Right-click the speaker icon > Sound settings > More sound settings >your device > Properties >Enhancements >Disable all enhancements.

    Test in a clean boot

Run msconfig, hide Microsoft services, disable the rest, and restart.

If crackling stops, one of your startup apps is the cause. You can revert back to normal boot after a restart.

If the issue still happens even in clean boot or Safe Mode, it’s likely hardware. Just let me know by replying to this post.

    Cheers,

    Res
