I have a Microsoft surface Pro 11 and after an update today the resolution of the second monitor is very low. I have follow all advice (update drivers, checked display settings, restore monitor to factory settings, etc) with no luck. I have restarted several times and the resolution is the same.

    Hi Maria Romero-Gonzalez,
    Thanks for the detailed update, here are a few additional steps you can try

    1. Check Device Manager for Monitor Recognition

    Open Device Manager and expand the Monitors section. If your external monitor is listed as “Generic PnP Monitor” or “Unknown device”, Windows may not be recognizing it properly. This can limit resolution options. Try uninstalling the monitor from Device Manager, then disconnect and reconnect the monitor to force Windows to re-detect it properly.
    2. Reset Your Docking Station (if using one)

    If you're using a docking station:

    Disconnect your Surface Pro from the dock.

    Unplug all cables (USB, LAN, power, etc.) from the dock.

    Wait 15 seconds, then reconnect everything.

    Reconnect your Surface and check the resolution again.

    1. Use the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit Download and run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit. It scans for hardware and driver issues and may help reconfigure the display settings correctly.
    2. Swap Cables or Ports

    Try switching HDMI or DisplayPort cables, or plug the monitor into a different port. Some users found that swapping cables or ports helped Windows re-detect the monitor and restore proper resolution.

    Let me know if you've already tried any of these or if you'd like help walking through one of them.

    @Maria Romero-Gonzalez and Taylor Leach,
    You can follow the steps shown in this video tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sy4fE0hSGNw
    In the video, it’s advised to disconnect all cables including power cables from both the dock and your device. You should also unplug the power source from the wall socket or power extension. Once everything is disconnected, turn the device back on.

    In the second video, you can try the first three methods they're straightforward and beginner-friendly. It's best to skip the last method for now, as it's more advanced.

    You can run windows updates and including optional updates and install.

    Let me know how it goes, and feel free to reach out if you need help with any of the solutions mentioned above.

    All the best,
    -Carl

    @Paula Scholz,
    Thanks for sharing the details. You can try these and let me know how it goes.

    Try System Restore

    If you have a restore point from before the updates were installed, using System Restore is a safe and effective way to roll back system changes without affecting your personal files. It can help bring back the previous display settings and drivers that were working correctly.

    Uninstall the Problematic Updates

    You can manually remove the updates by going to Settings > Windows Update > Update History, then selecting Uninstall updates. Look for KB5063878 and KB5058499 in the list and uninstall them to see if that resolves the issue.

    Update or Roll Back Display Drivers

    Even if Device Manager shows that the best drivers are installed, it’s worth trying to reinstall the Qualcomm Adreno X5 GPU driver. Alternatively, you can temporarily switch to the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, which may help restore resolution control.

    Report the Issue via Feedback Hub (search feedback Hub thru your windows device)

    To help Microsoft investigate and address the problem, open the Feedback Hub app and submit a report. This ensures the Windows development team is aware of the issue and can work on a fix.
