DNS resolution failure on Android with Private DNS enabled

Hello everyone,

I’m having an issue with Private DNS on Android (mainly on Samsung devices). The problem is that when we enable this setting and add the DNS suffix we want, DNS resolution stops working, even for enterprise applications whose URLs are configured directly via DNS. If we disable the Private DNS option, resolution works correctly again.

This behavior is recent, as Private DNS was working fine until approximately the week of June 23rd.

This is a major problem because we have /24 network ranges published directly for our IT team, and when Private DNS is disabled, they cannot connect to internal services by name through a Windows client.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

P.S.: We have already tried disabling Private DNS as suggested in the documentation. In addition, our connector is updated to the latest version, and Defender for Android is also on its most recent release.

    Hello, I am Dustin.

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community.
Based on the information you've provided, it appears that you're experiencing your DNS.

Here's what you can try to resolve the issue:

    Clear DNS Cache:

    • Sometimes, the DNS cache can hold onto incorrect resolutions. You can try clearing the DNS cache on your Android device to see if that helps.

Use the ASC tool to check the Private DNS configuration in Global Secure Access.

Temporarily use the magic suffix (.globalsecureaccess.local) to handle single-label domains if necessary.

    Network Configuration:

    • If your organization uses a VPN, sometimes the VPN can interfere with DNS settings. Ensure that the VPN settings are not overriding your Private DNS configuration.
