Microsoft Teams Team Owners cannot Edit Shifts

We are having an issue with multiple users not being able to edit Shifts in the Shifts app in Microsoft Teams. These users are owners of the Teams they are trying to modify. This just started happening Monday.

I have verified there is no custom policy being assigned, from my understanding Global policy should allow Teams Owners to modify Shifts.

Has anyone ran into this?

    Hello @Stanley Nichols

Thank you for posting your valuable question on Microsoft Q&A forum.

To understand your situation better, can you confirm this following information:

I would really appreciate if you can provide the screenshots describing your issue. (Please remember to remove any personal information before updating any information on this forum.)

According to your description, here are the troubleshooting steps for resolving the issue where Microsoft Teams Owners cannot edit Shifts in the Shifts app:

(These troubleshooting action require Microsoft 365 Admin roles. If you're not an admin, please find guidance on locating them at How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? )

    Check Shifts App Permissions

    • Go to the Microsoft Teams Admin Center: https://admin.teams.microsoft.com
    • Navigate to Teams apps > Manage apps > Search for Shifts app and click on the App name to enter the app information.

    • Choose Permissions to view What this app can do in Teams. User's image
    • Ensure the Shifts app is allowed under the Global policy or any custom policy assigned to the user.

Assign Schedule Owner Role (if needed)

Sometimes, being a Team Owner is not enough. You may need to assign the Schedule Owner role.

Please find guidance on how to assign schedule owner role at Use roles to define your frontline managers and workers in Shifts - Microsoft 365 for frontline workers | Microsoft Learn

    Try Web Version

    Clear Teams Cache

You can ask the Teams owners to clear Teams cache and see if the issue still occurs.

    On Windows:

    • Navigate to your Taskbar and look for the Microsoft Teams icon. Right-click the icon and choose Quit. This will force the Teams app to quit.
    • Next, copy and paste the following location into File Explorer: %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams, and delete the contents of the entire folder.
    • Restart Microsoft Teams by opening the application and logging back in.

    On a Mac:

    • Right-click the Teams icon in the taskbar and choose Quit.
    • Next, delete the directory ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams.
    • Restart Microsoft Teams by opening the application and logging back in.

Note: Deleting the cache won't remove Microsoft Teams from your device, but will remove the web client cache, icons, thumbnails, local message history, your Teams display images, and any other Teams add-ons.

In the meantime, please use this workaround to try editing your Shifts until the issue is resolved:

    1.Export the Schedule

    • Open the Shifts app in Microsoft Teams.
    • Navigate to the team schedule you want to edit.
    • Click More options (⋯) in the top-right corner.
    • Select Export schedule.
    • Choose the start and end dates for the schedule.
    • Click Export, then Open in Excel.

    2.Edit in Excel

    • Make your changes directly in the Excel file.
    • You can adjust shifts, times, notes, etc.
    • Save the file when you're done.

    3.Import Back into Shifts

    • Return to the Shifts app.
    • Click More options again and select Import schedule from Excel.
    • Choose the edited file and click Import.

This method is especially useful when:

    • You're making bulk edits.
    • You want to review or share the schedule offline.
    • You're facing permission issues in the Shifts app.

Please understand that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.
