Microsoft Edge - Painfully Slow

I would welcome any assistance in regard to getting MS Edge to operate even reasonably like a modern app.

Preferably I would like to remove Edge altogether but it seems that is not possible because it is so intertwined with Windows and other Apps. I find Firefox and / or Brave far better. However, since we forced to use Edge for some things I would just like it to open in a reasonable time frame.

Currently, if I click on any article that is linked to Edge it takes + 3 minutes to load the article. You read that correct not nano seconds or seconds but yes minutes.

I have tried multiple time times to effect a Repair via Programs & Feature > MS Edge > Repair which always goes through the process without error and gives a a message to advise the repair as being successful - but nothing changes it still takes forever to load an article and I usually give up unless the article is important or relevant; in which case I want 3+ minutes.

My system is Windows 11Pro and I have 32GB of RAM so that should not be3 an issue. Also, all other Browsers such as Firefox, Brave, Norton will load in milliseconds but not Edge.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for listening.

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

    1. Do you have any extensions installed on your Microsoft Edge web browser?
    • Go to edge://extensions/ and remove all the extensions from your web browser.
    • Restart Edge.
    1. If you're having issues, remove the edge user profile and create a New one.
    • Go to edge://settings/profiles and select Add Profile.
    • Sign in with a different account.
    • Then, remove your old Profile in Add profile section.
    • You can then sign in with your previous Microsoft account and open the Edge browser.
    1. If the issue persists even with the New user profile, Uninstall and reinstall the Microsoft Edge browser.

To uninstall the Edge web browser, open the Command Prompt (Admin) and run the first command below.

    cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\139.0.3405.86\Installer

Here, replace 139.0.3405.86 with your Microsoft Edge web browser version. (which is the current one)

On the next line, run the command below to uninstall the Edge web browser.

    setup.exe -uninstall -system-level -verbose-logging -force-uninstall

Once the browser has been uninstalled, restart your computer and download the Microsoft Edge browser here-

Let me know if you still need more help.

Thanks to Gunasekar N for a very detailed and thorough possible solution which in the meantime I didn't need to follow.

I found a possible solution posted by John Dev to another users question; followed that and it immediately fixed my problem.

    The solution was:

    go to Run then enter

    %localappdata%\Microsoft\Edge\

Copy the Userdata Folder and all it subfolders to a new location as backup

Go back to %localappdata%\Microsoft\Edge\ and delete the Userdata Folder

    Restart MS Edge

Problem solved - all links now open instantly for me.

Many thanks to all who assisted.
