Hi,

I currently have 2 additional monitors connected to my surface laptop using to Base charger which as the type c ports, Ethernet and USB port. I believe it is called the thunderbolt 4 dock.

I would like to add an additional monitor making it 3 in total plus the laptop. Can i do this using this Laptop. if so, what products to need to purchase in order to facilitate this.

Thank You

    Hi Nicholas,

    Yes you can.

My posts keep getting deleted for some reason.

At first I thought it was the Amazon link but when I got rid of it, the same thing happened, so I am truly down to as basic info as possible, unfortunately.

I have been using 3 external monitors to my Surfaces since Surface Book 1, all at 2560x1600.

I connect two via the monitor ports and the third via a USB to DisplayPort adapter (you can search for that on Amazon). I use the adapter because it is the only way to get my third monitor working at the same max resolution as the other two. Without the adapter, it still works, but must be at a lower resolution.

Today, I have a Surface Laptop Studio and my three external monitors are at 3840x2160 and I'm using the same setup with the DisplayPort adapter.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi @Nicholas,

I have been connecting 3 external monitors to my Surface devices since the Surface Book 1!

I wish I were still able to link you to my posts on the old answers.microsoft.com site, but here is a quick summary:

    • Monitor resolution matters: I was always able to connect 2 monitors @ 2560 x 1600, for example, but the third had to be lower, which was not acceptable for me.
    • The solution to that problem was to use a USB-to-DisplayPort adapter for my third monitor. This is the most recent one I have purchased: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OPI0XS2?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_6.
    • If you're okay with the lower resolution for your third monitor or lowering them all to a compatible resolution, then you don't need any additional hardware.
    • The Microsoft Thunderbolt 4 Dock was lacking in functionality for me, so I returned it and bought the CalDigit TS4 Dock instead.
    • Earlier this year, I replaced my 3 monitors and these new ones are operating at 3840 x 2160. Nevertheless, I still have my third monitor connected via the USB-to-DisplayPort adapter in place and all is working well, just like back in the day when I first did the setup with the Surface Book 1.

    Hope that helps!
