Hello,

I've been trying to activate windows for the past few hours but nothing is working. Error code 0XC004F074 is showing in settings and it says how windows cannot connect to my organization's activation server. My Windows installation is a Volume License edition and it is designed for organizations, however, my PC isn’t part of a KMS organization and my PC is just a computer I use at home. Does this mean that the only way to activate windows for me is to switch to a retail version of windows and buy a retail license?

Hi, I am an Independent Advisor, and welcome to Microsoft Q&A.

Since you mentioned that you have a KMS License and use your computer only for home or personal use, you will not be able to successfully reactivate it unless it connects to a corporate KMS or Active Directory server (companies, schools, etc.)

To solve this issue, you would need to buy a Retail license appropriate to the version of Windows installed. If necessary, reinstall Windows with the retail ISO.
